An Old Skool hot rod powered by a flat head V8. These were the kinds of hot rods that were the norm when I was growing up and one of the reasons I feel in love with the cool cars which were so popular and showcased in all the popular hot rod magazines.
Illustration is based on a 3D model I created from scratch using Hexagon 3D w.5 and Silo 2.0.
Rendered in Daz Studio with 3D Delight renderer. Post work in Photoshop CC 2018, Topaz Studio Impression and Filter Forge 7.0.

I had the extreme pleasure of attending this years annual Atlantic Nationals Car Showin Moncton, New Brunswick. It is the largest car event in Atlantic Canada and one of the largest in Canada. There were close to 2,000 cars this year…
1928 Ford Roadster pickup & 1931 Ford Pickup hot rods
Show attendant directing driver of 1931 Ford to a parking spot while the driver of the 28 Roadster looks on. It is quite evident these cars are influenced by the traditional style hot rods of HAMB and the Rodder’s Journal magazine.

This is my interpretation of a typical American hot rod. Hot rods originated in southern California when returning WWII soldiers wanted to create an American equivalent of the light and nimble sports cars of Europe (MGs, Alfa Romeos, etc). Suped up engines mostly V8s were swapped in place of the original motors. To help improve performance body parts were often removed. Fenders, bumpers, hoods, running boards were often shed to increase the horsepower to weight ratio of the vehicle.
In this image I used a late 1920s, early 1930s sedan body as the basis for the car. Powered by a early model Ford flathead V8 which
is supercharged with three carburetors. The roof of the sedan has been chopped to reduce it’s height.
I created the car from scratch using 3D modeling apps. The bulk of the modeling was done in Hexagon 3D and Silo 3D. For UV mapping I used 3DCoat. Textures were created in Photoshop and applied in Vue Complete 2015, where the scene was rendered.
And a NPR render in Vue Complete 2015, I masked out the background from the render and substituted a paper texture in Photoshop…
Love 3DCoat 4.5 and Vue Complete 2015 is the best Vue EVER…..

Grobo-car – My vision of a hot rod of the future powered by a clean energy source and has dual wheels in the rear, making it a 6 wheel vehicle.
A car which has performance and energy efficient. I created the car in Groboto which is a 3D modeling application. I then brought the base render into Artrage 4.5 where I painted over the image and applied a gradient. I used Photoshop for color correction and applied a texture to the background and added some noise to the car.
